Sept. 23: Celebrating 25 Years of Our Sanctuary

As the Trump Administration reviews the status of recent national monument designations, Dan Haifley, executive director of O’Neill Sea Odyssey, will give a talk on the 25th anniversary of the creation of Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary. Dan’s program will be 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Sept. 23 at the Santa Cruz Police Department Community Room, 155 Center Street. Free and open to the public.

May 20: County’s Response to the Trump Agenda

Supervisor Ryan Coonerty will discuss the “Response to the Trump Agenda” during a program from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. Saturday, May 20 in the Santa Cruz Police Department Community Room, 155 Center St. Hear what local and state officials can do to combat the right-wing attack on our environment, immigration protections, education, and a host of civil rights threats. Coonerty serves as the Third District Supervisor for Santa Cruz County, which includes the city of Santa Cruz, parts of Live Oak, and the North Coast. He was elected to the Santa Cruz County Board of Supervisors in 2014 after having served eight years on the Santa Cruz City Council, including two terms as mayor.

House Speaker Paul Ryan says Obamacare is now the “law of the land” after Republicans in Congress failed to replace the landmark legislation. But what’s next?

March for Science drew thousands

Thanks to everyone who joined in the Santa Cruz March for Science on Earth Day on Saturday, April 22. There were several thousand in attendance on the march from Santa Cruz City Hall or San Lorenzo Park. DWC members were glad to join members of the Santa Cruz Women’s March, People’s Democratic Club and others to keep up the resistance!
